Nonreturner (formerly Barn Owl) is a band from Columbia, Missouri comprised of Zach Biri, Logan Epps, Michael Hopkins, and John-paul McFarland. Their music ranges from shoegaze to glitchy electro-pop.
Zach and Michael formed Nonreturner in the summer of 2005 with drummer Zach Scott - the three had been band mates in the long-since defunct Projectors, and both Zachs had been making music since high school under the moniker Five Seconds of Goodwill. After Zach Scott left the country to persue a career in environmental law, a drum machine and eventually drummer Logan Epps were brought in to fill the enormous void. Michael met John-Paul through a job at a library, and he was eventually drafted as a multi-instrumentalist, primarily bassist. In the fall of 2008, Nonreturner began the process of starting a co-op label with brother-band Ursa Arctos under the name “Yards and Gods”.
Nonreturner draws influence from a wide range of music, including but certainly not limited to Venetian Snares, My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Steve Reich, Built to Spill, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Destroyer, Blonde Redhead, and too many others to list.
